Seniors for Climate is planning a Canada wide Seniors Day of Action on October First.

We’re creating an opportunity for seniors across the country to declare their support for Climate Action. A strong seniors climate movement will build the capacity for a sustainable future.

We are contacting groups like yours across the country to get involved. Seniors care about the climate and there is a lot we can do together. Join us!

    • We care about the future
    • We care about our children and grandchildren
    • We are vulnerable to impacts of climate change ie: extreme heat, wild fire smoke, flooding, power disruptions, severe weather. etc.

We are planning an information Webinar on May 28th at 6:30 pm EDT (5:30 pm CDT) to discuss plans for the Seniors Day of Climate Action on October First. Go to our website for more information and to register.

    Home Safety

As the weather is getting warmer, we would like to remind Winnipeggers of some home safety and security Tips.

    In your home

People who have been working in their yard or garden have gone back inside their homes to find their belongings stolen.

Minimize your risk with the following:

    • Keep your doors and windows locked.

    • When in the backyard lock your front door, and vice versa.

    • Don’t leave your garage door open with the contents easily accessible.

    • Consider installing an alarm system.

    In and about your yard

During the warmer weather months, outdoor belongings are often targeted by thieves. Reduce your risk of being victimized.

    • Have interior and exterior lighting that gives the impression you are home.

    • Trim trees and bushes around windows and doors so you have clear views

    • Keep your yard maintained to give the house a lived-in appearance.

    • Arrange to have your lawn cut and your snow shoveled when you go away.

    • Do not leave valuables out in the yard like tools, bicycles and ladders. If you don’t have a garage or a shed lock them up to something that can’t be moved.

    • Use a chain or a cable to lock your patio furniture.
